What started as a community-driven effort to strengthen food security, health, and social connection has blossomed into a vibrant hub of learning and belonging. Shelldale Farm Park (SFP) is more than a garden—it’s a space where families, seniors, youth, and newcomers come together to grow fresh food, share cultural traditions, and build resilience in Guelph’s Onward Willow neighborhood.
2025 was a transformative year. From expanding garden beds to hosting food and cultural workshops, SFP brought neighbors together, strengthened food security, and created lasting social connections. With strong partnerships and community leadership, we’re building a future where everyone can grow and belong.
The Year in Numbers
- 76 accessible raised beds serving 73 families and 4 community groups—over 345 participants across generations.
- 4,672 lbs of fresh food harvested, averaging 97 lbs per gardener.
- 1,850 seedlings distributed, plus seeds, soil, and mulch to fuel another abundant season.
- 12 workshops engaged 282 participants, teaching skills in gardening, cooking, and nutrition.
- 200 volunteer hours contributed by community members and students.
- 14 thriving fruit trees and berry plants maintained, plus two new gazebos for gathering and connection.

Beyond the numbers, the impact is clear: 83% of participants valued growing food from their culture, and 79% valued learning about food from different cultures. Gardeners speak 22 languages, reflecting the rich diversity of our community.
Programs & Partnerships
This year, we launched Fresh Food Prescriptions (FFRx) with support from RBC Foundation, providing 19 families with weekly fresh food and kitchen-based workshops through September 2026. We also secured funding for a greenhouse to extend growing seasons and learning opportunities.
Our success is powered by collaboration—with Guelph CHC, Kindle Communities, Ignatius Farm, the City of Guelph, University of Guelph, and many others. Together, we’re creating a model for community-led food security and health promotion.
Looking Ahead
Shelldale Farm Park isn’t just about growing food; it’s about cultivating health, belonging, and resilience. With your support, we can keep expanding accessibility, learning opportunities, and social connections.
